Sport

Sport today is big business - highly entertaining and in many ways a distraction, a form of escapism from the trials of everyday life. In these aphorisms God highlights His concerns regarding the directions taken by sporting organisations over recent years. He clearly prefers us to use sport for relaxation and healthy good fun.

'Enslaved by money, humbled by loss, captured by truth and rested by injury - the professional sports person.'

'Money for sport is not truly sport and can lead to self-indulgence and distress.'

'Sporting contacts between nations can often expose the extreme nature of national pride.'

'To be a true sport is to be humble in victory and gracious in defeat.'

'Excessive vain expectations of victory in sport and in particular international sport, if not realised, can cause exceptional and unhealthy bouts of depression and fault finding.'
